Product description

Style Name:7-Inch Skillet

The 7" (18cm) skillet with satin finish by AUS-ION is 100% made in Sydney from one seamless piece of 3mm thick Australian sheet iron. A traditional fry pan for smaller jobs, with 2-inch high sides. AUS-ION cookware is built to last with all of the features and details professional chefs look for in a pan: high quality, comfortable to use and easy to clean. The seamless, one-piece construction means there are no rivets, so there is nothing for food or steel wool particles to get caught in. The handles are ergonomically designed with a wide, concave shape which is more comfortable to use with better control and less hand fatigue. And the generous venting in the handle neck reduces heat transfer for a cooler handle. The pans cook like cast iron but are lighter weight, They heat evenly and will not warp. The entire pan is naturally pre-seasoned for a healthy nonstick option; It is not coated like many steel pan brands, so it arrives ready to cook, no stripping necessary. AUS-ION pans are suitable for use at high heat over any heat source. For best results, follow our instructions. To clean: after cooking, use a wooden utensil or steel wool to gently scrape pan under hot running water. It is best to clean while the pan is still very warm. If necessary, you may use a brush, but be careful not to take off too much of that beautiful seasoning that you have built up! Do not use soap, as it will erode the seasoning. Dry thoroughly with a paper towel while the pan is still warm. If the pan is still relatively new, return to the stove top and wipe the interior of the pan with a small amount of oil, heat until smoking. Then, using tongs, wipe off the excess oil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aus-Ion cast iron and carbon steel pans are a joy to cook with
Reviewed in the United States on 14 December 2019
For about 3 years, avoided buying Aus-Ion skillets even though they were highly recommended by my cast iron mentor. He calls their products “stellar”. Instead I opted for less expensive cast iron which was okay but too heavy for daily use, Before first use, I immediately add three additional layers of seasoning (we use and highly recommend Crisbee Cast Iron seasoning, sold here on Amazon). The quality of this pan is unparalleled, perfection. The photo show the before and after applying the 3 coats of seasoning. The last two photos are so you can see this pan is now non-stick. Am very fussy about maintaining my cast iron and carbon steel cookware. You’ll love the seamless foundry work with no rivets. These pans have cooking surfaces as smooth as glass. Highly recommended. 😉💃🏼

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Cast Iron..... but better
Reviewed in the United States on 16 March 2020
I started cooking with cast iron and fell in love with them! I have 3 different cast iron pans, plus two dutch ovens. My problems with cast iron is the handle is so short and gets VERY HOT and is risky to use on electric/induction cooktops as they are likely to scratch. I researched and found carbon steel and this product that Solidteknics makes. I got a great price on Amazon and have been so happy with them! I bought (2) 10.2 in and (1) 12 in pan. They heat so evenly (better than cast iron), handle does not get hot, and they sear incredibly. I landed on these over de Buyer and Mauviel because de Buyer now has a silicon coating on the handle, making it not practical to transfer to oven and the both have rivets where food could build up easier. From what I have read, Solidteknics is just at thick or even slightly thicker so it will retain heat just as well, but I can't provide a direct use comparison.

I can't knock these pans on anything other than I now have too much food in my refrigerator because these pans are so fun to cook with and I'm cooking all the time now!

Highly recommended - I paid $90 for the 10.2 and $108 for the 12, which is a steal!

Edit:
I've had these for about months now and so happy I made the purchase. I've added a picture of my two pans. The one on the right got stripped about a month ago by my mistake...., but the one on the right is well seasoned. Very durable and well designed pans.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor experience with seasoning and reseasoning
Reviewed in the United States on 11 June 2020
Very disappointed in this pan. I've seasoned many $19 lodge cast iron pans over the years and all turned out better than this $130 pan. I carefully seasoned it before using it about 5 times with very thin layers of flax seed oil as per the directions. Then cooked some pancakes on medium low heat. All seemed ok. Then cooked a burger on medium high heat. It appeared the seasoning was coming off. Rinsed it under warm running water with no soap and a gentle sponge and the seasoning was practically jumping off the pan. So it was time to start over which I've done many times by putting the pans in the oven cleaning cycle to burn off all seasoning. Unlike Lodge pans that come out with a clean, uniform gray, this pan came out with many colorations all over the pan (picture attached). Very splotchy and looks like rust. Don't know if this a a metallurgical problem or if the pan was rusty before seasoned at the factory or what but not what I expected at all either in terms of holding the initial seasoning or in stripping it. Can't recommend.
