I'd gotten a dedicated $100 USB mini-DAC/amp for use with my new USB-C phone and 3.5mm jack IEMs, but it boosted the volume so much, the sound was deafening at lowest volume using the sensitive IEMs.
This thing just works while having much lower (IMO usable) amplification, and it manages clean detailed sound in the process. No idea how they managed to squeeze a functioning DAC/AMP combo in that USB header but Apple did it, and for a great price too.
Basically the ideal way to use your current on-the-go earbuds with a USB-C phone.

Surprising good clean sound.. Good dac but amplification is weak via Handphone can't drive HD58x to high volume. But on Laptop the volume gets significantly louder.

Quite neutral and more than decent sound for sub $10 USD.
It can't power demanding headphones, but for most IEMs it is sufficient, other than some outliers that have low sensitivity/high impedance, eg Final E5000.

usable dac. good enough for lossless quality if you need a dac for your phone/ipad. cable is too thin, but for the price, you can get a backup and still cheaper than other dongles.

Bad quality
Reviewed in Australia π¦πΊ on 29 August 2021Verified Purchase
Audio is distorted and scrambled. (Unsure if I was unlucky or if all are of similar poor quality.) Disappointed that Apple are pushing for wireless headsets and not offering quality alternatives or basic support for regular headphones.

Very low volume on Android Pixel 7, Brittle, Overpriced
Reviewed in Australia π¦πΊ on 6 January 2023Verified Purchase
Pixel 7 phone: this USBC DAC works poorly. Very low volume, only usable at the top two highest volume settings.
Tried it with original Apple wired earphones and original Oppo earphones. Usable on both but only at the top two highest volume.
Tried it with stock Samsung AKG earphones, not usable at all even at the highest volume.
Tried it with old stock earphones and horrible buzz and not usable at all.
Overall poor on Android Pixel 7. Maybe meant to be used only with an Apple USBC device but I don't have one.
Verdict: Stay away from using it on Android phone.
Quality is brittle, doesn't inspire confidence that this would last, possibly will start fraying.

Works Fine

I bought a new to me phone that doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack but wanted to be able to use my good quality wired headphones. This item does the job.

Works fine, but cable feels flimsy
Reviewed in Australia π¦πΊ on 20 November 2022Verified Purchase
The white cable between the two ends is pretty soft and thin (compard to my audio cable on my headphones). Whilst the dongle is working fine at the moment, I take extra care with this cable to stop it wearing out/ breaking any wires.

Plugs my wired ear buds into the USB-C port on my iPad.

This adaptor does exactly what I expected. Plugs my wired earbuds into my iPad. I canβt pick any drop off in sound quality. It was cheap and arrived very quickly. No complaints from me.
