Fun and works fine, but the colors only lasted a year

I bought this on the spur of the moment via an Amazon instant sale, and didn't install it until I moved to a new house a year later. It worked great, and visitors were amused by the colors. The colors actually had a function to warn you when the water was getting too hot (red) or too cold (blue).

The showerhead still works as a showerhead, but after about a year the colors stopped. I think the mechanism inside got stuck due to minerals in the hard water. I didn't try to take it apart to see if I could fix it, because the water part was still working ok.

I had an ugly, old fashioned shower head in my apartment. I wanted to replace the head with something that would be easy to install and remove later if I move. I found this fixture during all the sales around Christmas and it was a great affordable price. The best thing about this shower head was the ease of install. I have never done this before and I was able to install this by myself very easily. There are no leaks! The color changing LEDs are a blast, but also very practial. I now know before I step foot in the shower if the water is cold, warm, hot, or scalding hot. This fixture looks great and appears far more expensive than it is. I do wish the hose was a bit longer to reach the far end of the shower better, but it's a small issue.

At first the adjustment for changing the shower setting stopped staying in position (would not 'click') and then water started coming out from around the edges of the shower head. Definitely like this one. Simple system - takes a second to adjust to the water temp, then displays an LED color corresponding to the temperature of the water, and is brighter or softer depending on how much water is passing through.

Cold - Blue
Warm - Green
Hot - Red

It gets brighter the more water goes through it, and darker the less water there is.

Has a few reasonably decent settings, from a mist (which is pretty intense) to a powerful concentrated spray, with the usually expected settings in between, some of which are quite cozy. Doesn't leak much, tightens up easy, and was easy and quick to install for someone with even a small amount of experience.

I purchased a different brand of shower head that turned out it to be defective. Fortunately, I bought it from Amazon so the return was easy with free return shipping. I was skeptical about the value of the LEDs on this shower head, but after using it for a while, I find I really like it. The transition from blue to green accurately signals when the water has reached a comfortable temperature and it transitions to red just when the temperature starts to get uncomfortable. It's great for my shower which is a long distance from the water heater. The LEDs would be a great safety feature for families with kids. Although you probably won't use all the settings, it is easy to find a setting that suits your preference.

Colors change as advertised, bought this to help my kid understand temperature better and it has worked. Build quality seems durable not cheap and plastic. The strong shower stream is decent, can't tell a difference beyond that one. The mist is great, the massage setting is pretty weak. When I flip through the types I only seem to have 4 patterns, might be because the shower streams are too similar. The mount is the only thing that feels cheaply made.

It's early and I don't much feel like typing out a short story so let me just tell you what the problem is.

I'm on my 2nd shower head after returning the first for the exact same issue so I'm assuming this isn't just a rare occurance.

After about 3 weeks of use the leds will start to flash and about a week later the shower head will, out of absolutely nowhere, start making an insanely loud high pitched scream. This sound will come and go, it will occur sometimes immediately, sometimes 10 minutes after being turned on, and sometimes not at all but it WILL continue to happen seemingly at random and will be loud enough to hear from across the house when the bathroom door is closed.

When this sound is about 4 inches from your head and you've just barely woken up it will get very oldvery fast.
