Brandon Stanton is back with the follow up to Humans of New York that his loyal followers have been waiting for: Humans of New York: Stories. Ever since Brandon began interviewing people on the streets of New York, the dialogue he's had with them has increasingly become as in-depth, intriguing and moving as the photos themselves. Humans of New York: Stories presents a whole new group of humans, complete with stories that delve deeper and surprise with greater candour.
Back in the summer of 2010, photographer Brandon Stanton began an ambitious project – to single-handedly create a photographic census of New York City. The photos he took and the accompanying interviews became the blog Humans of New York. In the first three years, his audience steadily grew from a few hundred to over one million. In 2013, his book Humans of New York, based on that blog, was published and immediately catapulted to the top of the NY Times Bestseller List where it stayed for many weeks. The appeal of the Humans of New York blog has been so great that in the course of the next year Brandon's following increased tenfold to over 12 million followers on Facebook and is still growing.
With his second inspiring look at the residents of New York, let Brandon Stanton and the people he's photographed astonish you.

Product description
Review
The photographs in this volume, some of which have never been published before, capture the city's inhabitants with a commendable eye for demographic diversity and everyday street fashion. But it's Stanton's interviews with his subjects, usually excerpted from their rawest moments, that are the most captivating as they highlight both the hardship and the little victories of an often-unforgiving city. ― The Atlantic
The images are gorgeous, and the effect is like walking through a version of our city where startlingly honest thought bubbles appear over everyone's head. ― The New York Magazine

Stanton does a great job of selection and arrangement of the pictures and stories in the book too, so a natural flow and pace is established with each new picture and the tales which accompany it. The book as a result is highly readable and not simply an interesting table book (not that I would depreciate any of the previous books in contrast to this one, every one of them exudes a humanity, warmth and interest, a certain spirit, when this real begins to resonate with the reader it is not difficult to see how Stanton was considered one of the top thirty beneath thirty among creatives).
In particular I thought the placing of pictures of Obama and his own hopeful thinking next to a more joe average character and his much, much more pessimistic thinking was interesting, though that is only one example, I liked pretty much everything this book had to offer. Recommended.

Recommended to people that feel they cannot overcome their problems and feel a little bit lost. There are people out there facing the same or worst problems than ourselves, sometimes it helps read about them and visualise them.
