My first use was pan chocolate chip cookie - one large cookie made directly in the cast iron pan. Not only was the cookie great (served hot with ice cream) but it couldn't have been more evenly cooked.
Clean up is just like any other cast iron pan. Treat it well and it'll return the favor.
The handles make it easier to use this pan in an oven because you can support it with two hands. The skillet comes pre-seasoned but that's not as useful as real seasoning through use. True seasoning, where the bottom is smooth like glass, takes years of use with metal tools (like spoons, spatulas, etc.).
These pans can go from the stovetop directly into the oven. I use the stovetop to brown meat and then I finish it off in a 400 degree oven. This pan is made from thick cast iron and it holds and distributes heat evenly. Cast iron is a healthier alternative to aluminum cookware and it even adds a bit of iron into your diet.
And this pan in particular is so versatile!
I've been using it both on top and inside the oven.
Whenever using it, I give it another coat of Crisco so that it can build up. It's becoming truly non-stick. And now that we know how unhealthy non-stick pans are it's nice to have one that's actually good for you.
Identical to my 10" skillet except without a long handle. Makes it a little more challenging for stove top use, but this is marketed for baking. I have cooked bacon and eggs in it stove top. Also used in an oven with cookie dough and it came out awesome!
Easy to clean like other cast iron (no sudden temp changes, no soap, season after cleaning). I used a chain mail scrubber to clean and it went smoothly. Seasoned with Crisco and was shiny and good for cooking the next time I needed it.
Tried it on my camp stove and it cooked nicely. Very happy with this pan for all its uses/versatility! Great job Lodge.
