Small and heavy, this is really a 1 person wok (maybe 2 small eaters).

It is really a deep bowl, rather than a mini wok, as the sides are much steeper than any other cast iron woks on the market. Keep this in mind, if your dish requires a cool staging area, as everything will always be falling directly into the sear zone. I prefer using my cheap low profile 12" made in China wok over the Lodge even for small meals. But the Lodge mini does shine at one particular task....

Other reviewers have mentioned it makes for an excellent deep fry setup, and this is where it excels over its larger 14" brother. The steeper sides, allow for a reasonable oil depth, yet because it's taller than a fry pan there is less splatter. The bowl shape, allows for easy steam escape, so you won't have any cooling down issues with the oil. The small size, makes the mini wok an ideal companion for a larger wok while on the stove top.

The Lodge mini wok is my goto wok for deep frying period. On an induction stove top, half full of oil, it can comfortably hold a temp of 375 degrees, and fry 6-9 chicken wings with ease. Dumplings, fries, nuggets, you name it whatever - and this wok does a great job of holding the smallest amount of oil needed to just get the job done. The conical shape, makes for a proper sediment basin, as all the gunk collects nicely on the bottom making oil decanting easier.

Like all modern cast iron products, even the mighty USA made Lodge has a crappy rough finish. Just like my 14" wok, I ground out the interior so it was smooth, and re-built up the seasoning. The base was also not perfectly flat, so it needed to be touched up with a belt sander. There probably isn't a market for a premium naked cast iron utensils anymore - but compared to what they made 100 years ago, today's stuff is miles behind in fit and finish. This is why the Lodge just gets 4 stars instead of 5. It can be soooo much better with just a little more machining.

For a small wok it seems pricey, but when making a complex dish that requires a deep fry portion, the Lodge earns its keep.

Excelente artículo, el tamaño es el justo para preparar comida para 2. Por su diseño se distribuye muy bien el calor. Lo uso como wok para preparar arroz frito o chop suey sin problema. Como todo artículo de hierro colado deben conocerse y darle sus cuidados. Este no es el común razón de aluminio recubierto con teflón, no, esto es algo mejor y que estará contigo quizá por décadas. En internet hay mucho material para aprender sus cuidados, mi metido es sencillo: después de usar, dejarlo enfriar. Después lavar con agua tibia o caliente, usar poco o nada de jabón (los abrasivos eliminar el curado) y fregar suavemente, lo suficiente para eliminar residuos. Secar con toalla e inmediatamente calentar en la estufa por unos 3 minutos para eliminar la humedad -la humedad puede hacer que se oxide-. Después dejar que se enfríe y frotarlo con una servilleta con aceite vegetal para dejar una ligera capa y guardar. Cuando vaya perdiendo su curado, debe curarse lavando lo como lo he descrito, frotarlo con aceite dejando una capa mayor y colocarlo en el horno a 350F por media hora y dejar enfriar, repetir si lo considera necesario.

This is a fantastic kadai (don't know why they call it "wok", it looks like a kadai to me), compact in size for a small family. It's not too heavy either, but is quiet stable on the stove and on the counter. The finish is good, with no sharp or crude edges.

I was really drawn by how cute the wok is and seemed like a unique piece of kitchen equipment made of a material that I did not own. The wok came without any packaging other than the delivery box and a few tags tided to the handle. I didn’t find any chipping on the surface, and the wok seemed well-seasoned to start. The wok has a good heft to it and definitely needed two hands to transport it. The 9” wok measures exactly 9” for the bowl portion and 11.25” across including the two handles. The depth of the wok is 3”, which is definitely not as deep as I had expected.

The first (and last) dish that I made was a frittata. I made sure to oil the surface well before pouring in my egg mixture and baking it at 350F for 25mins. When I dislodged my frittata from the wok, I was left with a crusty mess!! No amount of scrubbing with salt and a bristle brush could take off all the crusted egg. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed! I had hoped that it would be more non-stick (or at least easier to clean...). I will unfortunately have to return it. Bummer!

This wok is the perfect size for me. Not too big not too tiny. I enjoy stir frying in it as it’s cast iron and retains heat evenly. I may be imagining it, but food does taste better. In fact, this is the second 9inch one I’ve bought.
