I highly recommend these cards for creating your own fun games and for making studying more entertaining. I think it would also work well to just let children (or the child in you) loose and do whatever they want with them. Imagination is the most fun thing to work with and these cards give you great freedom with creating new ideas. I will be purchasing them again.
The pros: this pack does exactly what it sets out to do. It's a giant deck of blank playing cards. I use them as a productivity tool now, and occasionally as a thumbnailing tool. They shuffle nicely compared to notecards.
The cons: mostly, it's not capable of doing anything fancier due to the semi-gloss varnish on the surface. I don't rate anything 5 star unless it blows me away, so take that as a compliment to the product.
I'm an artist, so I was hoping to be able to use my usual micron/copic ink pens on these. The cards still do their intended job, but the only thing that writes on them without wiping right off is sharpie. These cards are probably fine for basically any other use...flashcards, game design testing, whatever. For art use, you're better off with Strathmore Artist Trading Cards in sleeves, assuming you're not drawing right on top of your MTG cards (you know, like sane people who aren't me, apparently).
For MTG (Magic The Gathering) and other TCG (Trading Card Games) testing or as replacement cards for board games - These cards feel like real playing cards, which is cool...but they do need sleeves if you want to play with them in any serious game, since they're backless, and you won't be able to reliably reproduce the back side artwork on these.
These do make game design playtests feel a lot more "real," which is a surprisingly important morale factor on a design team. Highly recommend for that purpose.
Just keep in mind that a semi-gloss finishing layer has already been applied to the paper if you want to use it for anything more artsy, or if you're trying to get more repeatable/precise graphic results.
Now enjoy your blank deck of cards while I go ponder why I spent so much time analyzing the merits of a very reasonably priced stack of tiny paper. Good luck with your creative projects.
