What a shock it was when we tasted this Nikka blend for the first time. Since then Nikka has entrusted us with distribution in France and Europe and has become a leading brand of whisky. And Nikka from the Barrel with its woody-vanilla very mellow character remains in our eyes the best blend of its generation. La Maison du Whisky’s top seller despite its high alcohol content (51. 4%) it is one of those rare whiskies if not the only whisky that can be equally well enjoyed neat on ice or in a cocktail. Produced from a blend of the Miyagikyo and Yoichi single malts and a single grain whisky NIKKA FROM THE BARREL embodies the expertise of the distillery’s master blenders. Intense round and generous this ambitious powerful controlled high-alcohol blend is recognised for its originality. This is a bold whisky. It seizes you and seduces you. It asserts its own style.
Nikka from the Barrel is Nikka’s flagship whisky and is a blended whisky comprised of 60% Coffey Grain and 40% malts from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.
Nikka was set up in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the “Father of Japanese Whisky” – who travelled to Scotland in 1918-1920 to discover the secrets of whisky production. Nikka combines traditional Scottish whisky-making techniques with Japanese precision and attention to detail.
The whiskies are aged for an average of 10 years, blended, then married for 3-6 months in barrels and bottled straight from the marrying barrel. This technique gives the whisky its renowned name.
