Asian Steamed Dumplings Ready To Go

Was so excited to get this very quickly as a Prime Member. I have had my eye on it for some time now. Not only do you get the steamer, they even included other useful items to get you going instead of having to make additional purchases: 50 steamer liners for the bamboo baskets, two sets of wooden chopsticks, and a sauce dish.

Unfortunately, while everything looked fine from the outside, one of the bamboo layers had wood that was close to being split in 2 different places. My concern is this is a new product, unused, and I am unsure it will hold up to the use I am planning to put it through. The sturdiness is not what I expected.

I shall reach out to Amazon for a replacement. While I may not be able to make dumplings as planned for this weekend, I am still looking to make them in the near future. Amazon has always been understanding with any issues that I have had in the past and I hope this situation is no different this time.

When this issue is resolved and I have used this product, I will certainly come back and review it again.

I liked the price, ease of use and cleaning, and the free gifts they give. Although heads up, the wax liners I received were a bit too sticky for my XLB and they stuck to the paper and ripped :( The steamer itself has a small part that unraveled after one use but it doesn't look like a big deal, still very usable. I reached out to customer service to see if we could work something out, but overall, good buy, would buy it again if needed!

EDIT: upgraded to 5 stars b/c they quickly sent a new one. awesome customer service!

Large - Sturdy - Quality Steamer

I chose the 12" as I had made bao "buns" in a smaller steamer, and they were too little to make a nice sandwich. I figured I would be able to make them bigger with a larger steamer. I was so excited that I was able to fit the entire recipe of bao dumplings in the two layers of this 12" steamer. I probably shouldn't have done that, but - really - even though somewhat crowded - they turned out fantastic. This steamer is made very well - very sturdy. I was surprised at how easy it was too clean - but I was diligent about washing it right away. My only warning - make sure you have a large enough pan/pot to accommodate this steamer. Thank goodness I did! The other reason I chose this steamer - each layer is over 3" deep.

This steamer is great we just used it to steam some soup dumplings and reheat a dungeness crab last night. They turned out delicious and it's a healthier alternative to microwaving. It's a good sturdy steamer that I'm sure we will be using often.

The cleaning instructions say that we should clean it with a tea bag and lemon and then coat with oil. I hope this isn't each time we use it because then we wouldn't be using it as much. As it is, we just cleaned it like normal with soap and water. Maybe once in awhile if it gets dirty we use the tea bag and lemon.

Not as advertised and where did the pink stain come from?

I was excited to receive this steamer, but this is what I found when I opened my Amazon box...it was not well packaged. It did not come with the chopsticks. The liners were not included. The only thing that came with it was the small sauce dish. I don’t like false advertising or at least be consistent with what you are advertising.

I washed it with luke warm water and steamed it without any food to “break it in”. After the first steam there was a pink stain that formed on my steamer. I tried washing it off, but it didn’t come off. I don’t know where the stain came from. I’m not sure how safe I feel steaming food in it.

Shallow but Nice

So far these steamers seem to be alright. The build quality seems fine for the price. These replaced a 12” set we’ve had for 15 years. Hoping these last that long.

Is like to point out that these are really shallow. The inside depth is only 1.5”. So steaming fluffy yeast buns will not work unless you make them very small. Also, You will gain more height in the top steamer with the lid, maybe another 1”. The depth is very disappointing as the measurements are misleading.

The included chopsticks while short are nice and sturdy. Plus I love that this came with steam paper! Good stuff!

Quality bamboo steamer

This is my first bamboo steamer, I was hesitating to choose between the 10” and 12” but finally thought the bigger size could do more job so I ordered 12”, now I think 10” should work for me because I could use one layer to steam enough food 😆 even its 12”, I could could 10” pan underneath to boil water and steam the top. It works great, I used to do dough rise on baking pan (in warm oven) and it did not rise big, with this steamer the dough rise bigger and fluffy. To keep the bamboo steamer from getting mouldy, you shall always keep it dry after use and clean. I also get gauze from Asian market so it’s reusable after each steaming.

I like the size and it's well-made. You can see that it's sturdy I've had others in years past that didn't look this good or this well-designed. I haven't been able to use it yet but I feel certain that it will be perfect. I prefer to steam items and even look forward to doing some dim sum. I like the the little sauce Bowl that came with it. There was a website to go to for some dim sum recipes but when I went to it there were no recipes available but I can always get it from a cookbook online. It's really a well-designed product and they even took the time to put a little design on it I can't be more happy with it
