Product description

Made by the finest stainless steel material which ensures strength, quality and durability. Its design and finishing will make a wonderful experience in regular use. The holes in the stand are a method of checking to see if the batter is thick or not. Thick batter is needed to make the finished product, and the holes serve as a checking point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand is well-made
By JJ on 15 June 2020
I was hesitant about buying this because of the polarized reviews. Many said it was flimsy and made of aluminium. However it looked pretty well-made to me, and while I don't have a way to test, it seems like stainless steel as advertised. There are also no holes where we pour the batter, as a review indicated.

This idli steaming utensil is of good quality steel but it is very thin, thus it is very flimsy. It is okay for occasional users.

I don't recommend anyone purchase this product. The item I received was not the same as the pictures show. Instead of each tray having its own pedestal as in the listing photo, which you could fill and then stack on the center post, this one has these little spacers with nuts (see my photo) which you would have to screw together every time you used it. Can you imagine having more than 16 idlis worth of batter and having to take them all apart and put them back together just to refill? Or else try to fill the trays while balancing on those narrow tubes? No thanks.

Mine also had the black gunk on the surfaces that other reviewers have noted, though that did come right off with rubbing alcohol.

The item came with no box, no manufacturer info, no instructions or documentation, no invoice or packing slip or return info - nothing but the item itself, wrapped up in several layers of padding and tape and stuck in a plastic mailing envelope. Also the tracking info was useless, it was apparently dropped into a mailbox in India and no further information is possible (it still shows in transit even though I got it about 3 weeks ago).

When I tried to complain to the seller about the bait-and-switch via Amazon's customer service channel, they replied suggesting I contact my local post office to retrieve the item. Sigh. I eventually received a refund from Amazon.

I think if not for the problem with the hardware, this would have been fine to use, the quality seems OK, but I did not actually try it!
