To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
The writing is sweet and full of heart, although maybe not as engaging for young preschoolers (3's and 4's). If you are using this for young ones, expect to be explaining quite a bit of vocabulary for the first day. My lower stars are about the quality alone. The book itself was not very sturdy. For the price, I was expecting sturdier and higher quality materials. One page had the writing so high up on the page that the tops of the letters were slightly cut off. It was packaged in an envelope that was shoved and bent in my mailbox, making the book be warped. The fault of USPS, but a warning from Amazon on the package to not bend would have gone a long way. I think this book would be ideal for more of a 5-7 age range.
Love the book, very excited to use this with my grade one class next year. I only give three stars because the books was shipped in an envelope and it got bent up/ damaged (soft cover) before arrival which was disappointing.
Three stars, not for the story “A Letter from Your Teacher” itself, which I intended to purchase (it’s wonderful!), but for the fact that the book I received from Amazon has an entire random book called “my first day at day care” printed in full and included inside. Some might think “oh cool, two books for the price of one,” but the “bonus” book isn’t one I would’ve purchased for myself or classroom anyway. Otherwise, I love Shannon olsen’s books and find my students connect to the characters and content.
