To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I know Amazon is a repository for poorly constructed, cheaply made garbage, but these needles really take the cake. I've now snapped two different needles from this pack in half with my fingers just trying to sew. I'm extremely lucky that they broke cleanly and didn't fly off and land on the ground somewhere else where a dog or kid could step on it.
I'm not a super-skilled sewer, but I've used needle and thread to mend clothes and do other basic stuff for at least 20 years and this has never happened to me, not even close. I don't have big, strong hands, either—I have to wear child-size gloves and my ring size is a 6.
On top of the flimsiness, these are very dull. At first I thought my material was just too thick, but then I tried passing a needle through quilting cotton and it was harder than it should be. They seem to be rounded on the ends—I can press them into my fingers hard enough to leave a dent and still not draw blood.
Going to have to try to find a higher-quality product somewhere else. Amazon curse strikes again - you get what you pay for
Many of the needles in the pack I received are defective and cannot be used. The worst one is crimped on one side in several places, as though it had been clamped and bent in a machine. The others are very rough, with protruding, ragged burrs all along the needles, and again around the eyes. I don't believe they are straight, and the metal isn't the good quality one would expect. The package states they are made in China; these are such poor quality I would not attempt to sew anything with them, and given the price of 67 cents for a package I wonder if they are counterfeit. I was surprised that they were shipped in a flat box that a book would fit into. I will be returning them at Amazon's expense as they are defective.
Half the needles had eye holes so small that you can't thread even the smallest thread through. Even when using a needle threader. they are so dull it wouldn't even poke through light weight chenille material.
I've only ever broken one needle before I bought these and that was sewing through a seam on a leather vest...I broke 3 of these in less than 5 minutes and it wasn't even anything thick or heavy duty. These needles are trash.
