I also like the open wood case the 2 sets come in. I wanted the child size wood rolling pin (much better than plastic rolling pins that don't work). My grandchildren will enjoy this double set. Thank u Doug & Melissa for making quality toys.
My three year old son enjoys very much! His fine motor skills are developing nicely as he continue to become more adept using the tools. I liked that many of the tools were made of wood rather than plastic making them Sturdier than the plastic versions in the Play Doh fun kit. There are more varieties of rollers (small rolling pins) and scissors than the play doh fun kit too. The tools will work with Play Doh, as the "modeling dough" included is very similar to Play Doh (i can't tell the difference between them). I wish that the kits had covers for easier storage. Currently they are in wooden crates which are easy to stack, but would've liked the option for storing vertically (on the side) to save some space. The containers of modeling dough are very small, about the size of a golf ball. I would recommend purchasing additional play-doh or modeling clay.
2.5 year old loves play dough. She had just been using plastic lids spoons and knives with her play dough I finally brought her this double set. She loves them. Plays with play dough daily. Great fine motor skills. Loves using the scissors to cut the play dough. Big sister likes playing with little sister and the play dough now that they have actual tools to use.
We have had them for a few months and they seem very sturdy.
I love all of Melissa and Doug products. This set is much nicer than the plastic ones by play doh. It does come with small containers of dough, but they’re tiny so we bought some full size containers of play doh to go with it. But I did notice the real play doh dries out much quicker when left uncovered than the containers that came with this set!
We used these for a library sensory bin, and the kids really enjoyed them. They seem sturdy enough for repeated use, and there's a pretty good variety of tools here. They work better for play doh or clay than they do for things like cloud dough or kinetic sand, but they're not horrible with those, either. The kids seem to make it work.
I like this alot but my 4 year old son played with it about as much as any other playdough set. That is, they play with it over a few days and then get tired of it. I put it away and pull it back out from time to time. This would be a better set for a 1-2 year old in my opinion. Or, a cheaper playdough set would get the job done too. I soooo wanted him to like this more and play with it everyday. It may just be him though!
