This Calphalon 1.5 quarts is for hand wash only. Please see the instruction in the box attached. It is not dishwasher safe. I love the design but not sure if I will return and keep the item. I still have a few days more left to return the item. I haven’t used it yet. I always check the instruction first. One of the question and answer part, the buyer said it is dishwasher safe. That’s why I bought it, when I received the item, I checked the instruction written on the box, it is hand wash only and also indicated at the bottom of the pot. I wonder why the manufacturer didn’t indicate in the amazon for this item that it is for hand wash only or correct the buyer with the answer and question part.
Good built quality but a little bit on the small side and big cons is the handles that gets very hot when using it on the stove. Ive return this one for the 7 qt with silicone wrap handle that is a better size for family of 4.
Calphalon is swell. It's light, heats evenly, cleans up easily and looks great. But these must be their most basic model and the problem with these is the handles. They're short and ungainly, they get real hot real fast, and they're riveted to the pans in a very basic way, which might present a cleaning problem in some cases.
Tramontina and ScanPan for example solve all of these problems. The rivets don't go though the pans. And handle heat is addressed in both cases, either by using some not metal handle (ScanPan) or simply adding a silicone sleeve (Tramontina) which seems like a very simple and inexpensive solution that works just fine.
I think Calphalon has to raise its game here. I'm sure they make a better model.
The cons first: 1. The pouring spouts seem like a good addition, but I found trying pouring hot liquid through the holes of the lid was awkward. 2. With the on (simmer), steam escapes through the top which make simmering next to impossible. The lid should be re-engineered. When and if that happens, Calphalon should replace the top at no charge. That being said, pros: It's very nice lightweight Dutch oven. I tried braising short ribs and the results were terrific. It does a good job browning the meat and I didn't find any hot spots. It didn't simmer well because of the escaping steam. I just added more liquid. I guess I could have sent it back, but I'll just keep it and make adjustments. Again a well engineered top would solve the problem.
I bought this one along with another Calphalon nonstick pot. They look very much alike except for the different sizes. However the other one is dishwasher safe and this one is not. But I thought it was. So after a month of use a large part of the paint on the outside has come off. It’s ugly.
Great shape and size. It's not heavy and easy to use. I've been using this pan for about one month, so far so good. My only hope is that the nonstick layer will last longer since normally I change my nonstick pan around half to one year.
After five months of using the pan almost everyday it started to get sticky and the bottom wasn't flat when heated. It seems it's time to get another new pan.
The smaller pan arrived chipped fro one of the sides. I don't think I will returned them as I don't want to bother with going to the UPS store and all that (during this time). The heat distribution is ok on the big one as the items in the pan slide to one side on the stove. They are easy to clean and the heat resistance is good. Not sure if I will buy online next time due to this issue.
This pan is okay, though maybe less so given the price. I have a flat-top stove, and our pans need to sit flat to maximize their effectiveness., This pan is slightly lower in the middle, causing it to wobble just a little bit, That little bit means that the center is always hot, and one side, usually the handle side, is hot too. But that little bit of space on the side that isn't in contact limits the available cooking surface and doesn't allow you to walk away from it. I would not buy another, but if you have a gas stove or don't care about wobbly pans, you will be okay with this one.
10/2/21 Update - Yesterday I FINALLY got to speak to someone at Calphalon and I wasn't on hold forever. She created a new case and upgraded my replacement pans to their Signature Series for the aggravation of getting mine replaced (and I don't think they have any more of the 8" pans of what I originally bought). I think it might take up to a few business weeks to receive. Still not changing the title of my review because I did have trouble getting someone to resolve this. I did raise it from 1 star to 3. I hope these pans hold up much better than my originals.
I was working with a customer service person who agreed to replace my 8" and 10" pans. We've been communicating since 9/5/21 after I submitted the warranty claim. I've had some family issues which interfered with my being able to give them all of the information they wanted (since I was out of town and couldn't get pictures), but that's been done. I've been trying to get in touch with this person to see when I can expect the replacement pans and she's fallen off of the face of the Earth. It's now 9/30/21 and I would like to know just how much longer I have to cook in my sticky pans. I tried calling today after they stopped communicating with me via email and, like everybody else, they "are experiencing very heavy hold times". I held on; it sounded like the phone was answered and then there was nothing. I have not cooked on high temperatures. I've hand washed these pans and used nothing but wooden or plastic utensils, but the oil seems to have stuck to the sides of the pan and now food sticks to the bottom.
Very disappointed when I opened the box. The lid was bent!! I kept it because it is still functional and I was worried it would take a long time to replace. I didn’t realize the handles have no protective heat surface so you have to use pot holders. Other than that it works well just like my Simply Calaphon set.
