Following the burning instructions is actually necessary unless you find a good fitting holder. Burning for a short while then letting it cool will greatly improve it's performance. I let one just burn and it promptly self destructed in 4 hours. The votive holder i used was akin to a small stemless wine goblet so using a tighter fitting votive holder may help to avoid baby sitting each candle each time. The candles are a press formed style candle "not the denser pour formed" much like a tea light. Thus containing a little less wax but the price is right.
I read the reviews and decided to try for myself. I need them for approx 5.5 hr dinner. I monitored while cleaning the house. They lasted almost 6 hours so have decided to keep. For the money, it great. I would pay a bit more for truly 10 hr burning candles but couldn’t seem to find any.
Overall I am satisfied with these candles. I did not have any chipped candles though it does have a strange plastic-y smell initially. I found opening the box and placing these into the glass votive holders I got for our wedding helped air them out. They are shorter than other votives I’ve had, so I tested one candle out to see how long it lasted. So far it’s lasted about 6hrs until I blew it out. I imagine it only would have burned another half hour. I didn’t notice any smell while it burned which is nice (I don’t want to overwhelm guests if I have tons of these out with my centerpieces the day of).
I was happy overall with these for the price. As to whether they actually last 10 hours, I would say probably not (unless perhaps you trim the wick small), and they may not all be exactly the same (as I'd lit 2 at the same time, but one went out a little earlier than the other. It wasn't major though, and I would still say they are worth it. The color is consistent throughout, and there is no perceptible odor. The only other note is that if you scratch into them, they do make a bit of a mess, as they are not really smooth wax, but rather tiny wax grains compressed together.
im not sure if they last a while 10 hours but they do last a very long time. Great value for the amount you get. Just as a warning though I got the black candles and some of the wax dropped on my white marble counter tops but stained my counters very badly. 4- stars due to staining
I had these shipped to my mother's home for use at my wedding reception this summer, so I haven't seen them in person, but she said they look nice. They arrived very quickly and seem to be a good deal for the price. We haven't burned any yet, so I can't comment on whether they will last the promised 10 hours. In my experience, a lot has to do with draftiness and the size of the holder -- too big will cause the wax to run down the sides, exposing more wick and burning off too fast. Note that you MUST use a proper holder with votive candles. It is messy and probably unsafe to burn them just sitting out.
You should check all the boxes you get to see if any are broken or otherwise damaged, especially if you need an exact number. We were lucky and only one out of the 72 was split in half. I need at least 60 candles for my tables, so if there are only a few others that have problems, I should be fine.
These DO have a low melt, so be sure to use them in a suitable votive holder. I used them in a large holder with sand so they were easy to dump. When burned, I noted that some of them were white wax inside and dipped in red but it did not matter at all for my purposes.
A bit less expensive than Micheals and lasted couple hours longer than similar Micheals candles but took over a half hour to really get going. Unlike Michaels great candle quality I had 6 of 144 losing their wick out of box.
