How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Jeff P.
1.0 out of 5 stars Inferior to my ultra cheap no-name showerhead from China

I received the white/chrome version of this item at no charge for a review. It may be that I got a returned item; it’s hard to tell. No hose was included to connect it and there was no hook or other hardware to hang it on, although the Hansgrohe-logo box was mostly empty and big enough for items like that to be included. Also, the box looked a little shopworn and was held closed by a short piece of ordinary tape. On the other hand, the product photos and description make no mention of anything but the handheld so I’m assuming that you just get the handset as I did.

If that’s truly all you get and you want to supply water to it, you have to provide your own compatible hose. If you don’t want it to dangle from the end of that hose and spray water around randomly, you need to provide something for it to rest in or rest on that will position it so that the water comes down on you.

Fortunately I have two showers, both already equipped with handheld showers, hoses, etc. So I swapped out one of them (a Delta) for the Hansgrohe. It didn’t fit the hanging receptacle well, not surprising since it was designed for a Delta. The only position it would stay in was pointing the water straight down from overhead less than a foot from the shower wall. This is a huge walk-in shower. Having to hug one wall of it to get wet kind of defeats the purpose.

So I tried the Hansgrohe in the other bathroom, swapping out the cheapo no-name shower head. I could get the Hansgrohe to stay in a usable position with this hardware although it obviously didn’t fit. Then I tried it.

Fail #1: the pressure at any of the three settings is unimpressive with not much difference between them. Both of my other shower heads have “massage” settings that are very robust (this may be TMI but we’re talking bidet-level turbo power).

Fail #2: the select button is meant to switch water output between three nozzle banks or groups. Each time you press it, nozzles in one group stop and the nozzles in the next group start. Except that right out of the box, that’s unreliable on my sample. Stopped nozzles often don’t fully stop and may keep dribbling to some extent until you cycle the select button a few times. The button feels imprecise and a little flimsy.

If it’s not obvious yet, I don’t recommend this item as I received it at any price.

BTW, I learned that Hansgrohe and Grohe are two completely separate firms. I have some Grohe fixtures in my house and assumed that the names signified a relationship between the two. My Grohe fixtures are of such high quality that this Hansgrohe surprised me enough to research.
