This is my 3rd Lodge pan and I'm still not impressed. The other two have started to stink as I don't use them regularly. Seasoning is gone after few months of use. Seasoning and cleaning is a big pain for these pans. I wish Lodge would have done better work with season so that it lasts longer. I've lost seasoning quickly on other two pans as well so it's sort of issue with Lodge. And yes, I do take care of pans very well as they have advised. The product is undoubtedly the best except seasoning and cleaning. The reason why I keep buying cast iron pans is because food tastes better.
The griddle is excellent as always from LODGE. It was well seasoned and the pancakes slipped right out on the first use. The silicone handle is NOT HEAT resistant for a gas range! The silicone handle would probably be fine for a regular electric stove.
I bought this primarily for making tortillas but I find myself using it nearly every day. I wish the surface was smoother, but that is a common issue with modern cast iron. I may try to smooth it myself at some stage. This is the perfect pan for cooking bacon and eggs or burgers. I've had it for a few months and the seasoning has gotten better with use. Highly recommended.
I finally found enough courage to move from non stick to cast iron griddle, and this was my first purchase. Long story short, I am super impressed with the difference! I primarily use this griddle to make dosa (an Indian form of rice and lentil crepes), and anyone who has experience with this dish can attest to the fact they are delicate and easy to mess up. I did face hiccups initially, with food sticking on to the griddle, but as time progresses, this keeps getting better and better,as promised. I refreshed the seasoning after the first (failed) use, and since then I haven't had any problems with it. Nifty, small workhorse that's going to be a great addition to my kitchen, for years to come, by the looks of it. I don't care about the handle holder though. It keeps sliding off, which is really dangerous. You can get a lot of helpful tips online about initial seasoning and regular maintenance of cast iron cookware.
Received this skillet as a replacement to and older Lodge flat skillet that had cracked. The Lodge skillet works OK. Having several older skillets made by other companies which perform great, the rougher surface of the Lodge make some foods challenging to make. Eggs over easy are almost impossible! I remedy this by sanding the surface mirror smooth and re-seasoning the skillet. Now it’s like cooking on Teflon, only safer and better IMO!
