When I first started, I wanted to get the Key lights, but during the pandemic, all these were out of stock. So I got 4 Aputures 672, which blinded me when was directed at me, but I had no space to put in soft boxes or umbrellas, so I bounced them off the wall and ceilings, but that made difficult to control direction of light.
Now the Key lights are in stock again, I've got them and they work right out of the box. No issue connecting to wifi. The light is nice and soft and can be facing me without blinding me. As I have long recording sessions (1.5 hrs), this was a very important issue to me, or my eye sight might get damaged in the long run.
I've got two, and ordered my 3rd one. Great product, just too bad I could not get them initially when I needed.
With all the Zoom , Webex and MS Teams calls I've been on since the lockdown this light has become an invaluable piece of my office equipment. it is easy to set up and use and the computer app allows me to control it via my stream deck for ease of use. A very good desk light that is more than bright enough to be used on its own with no other light sources.
I bought this as i work from home and suffer death by meetings all day long. THis light is amazing if not too bright!!. Easy to adjust temperature of the white on win 10 desktop or phone and offers super bright to super dull. Used the mounting kit to mount to my desk with a webcam in front of it and i have the best looking video of them all So good a few team members have also purchased elgato lights as well. Have used with Teams, Webex, Zoom direct and also XSplit vcam with amazing results. Would NOT be without one.
For sure, anyone who hasnt had a light will need to start low and let your eyes get used to it. I run mine around 50% brightness and 4400K white for meetings and now forget its even on!
It's heavy, its made of a metal backing like aluminum cast. In the center of each side span is a flush 1/4-20 photographic camera mount hole. It easily screws onto the 1/4-20 mount screw that typically comes with a Tripod.. however beware, its also quite heavy and can severely twist or break the mount if unbalanced even for a moment.
The mounting arm that comes with it is a heavy duty, large and thick diameter pipe mount with wide screw clamp that should be able to cover both the Top and Bottom of a desktop edge with its wide flat flanges. Its obvious some thought went into it. This is not a light weight barely sufficient pipe mount arm like for a clamp mounted LED Lamp.
The OSRAM LEDS are bright and flicker free, they start up first with a quick on then off while the panel continues its boot cycle and then come on about medium bright.
I used an ipad-mini4 to download the elgato control center app and switched the Wifi radio over to 2.4 GHz, the device showed up a "different from WiFi Access Point" but WiFi enabled device.. the app completed the pairing process and presented a simple slider for LED "Temperature Color" and "Brightness" control. And on/off button and an info button. The info button would allow me to name my light and displays the firmware version its currently running.
Its pretty stable and solid, no surprises .. except the heft of the weight of its frame.. and the boldness of its "pipe arm" mounting stick. Its a simple vertical arm and does not traverse in the horizontal direction. There is a heavy duty mount on top of the arm that allows some degree of lateral and vertical aiming in the azimuth and altitude directions.
The app is also pretty simple and stable (at least on ios) the box says google android and apple ios apps are available. But I downloaded and ran the app from my iPad. There are pics of Win10 and macOS on the box.. but I don't know if there are native apps for those platforms.
The power brick is universal with a fork snap-on to cover UK, European an US mains outlets. It has a long thick cord with a RF choke on it. The weight of the power adapter is all in the literal 'brick sized' wall adapter.. the cord ends a small push on male plug.
