I truly feel like lady Gaga’s makeup brand is a cash grab. There’s no quality here. The packaging looks chic and appealing and the colors are pretty but… The smell and taste of the product is awful and when it comes to lip products that’s just off putting. The color is so thin and watery it doesn’t even make an appealing lip gloss. I just feel like we could have expected a little bit better from this brand.
I had this item in my cart for a while before finally taking the plunge once a major sale came forth - I didn't have massively high expectations, but I generally like Gaga and wanted to like her cosmetics line as well. I've tried many different liquid eyeshadows over the past few years because liquids, crayon-style pencil eyeshadows and jelly eyeshadows have become a new favorite of mine due to ease of use, and because I can generally skip using a primer if I'm short on time. Some liquids (like all powders) crease quickly on my oily lids, but others I've found have intense staying power. This is *not* one of those products.
First, the color and pigmentation: the color itself is a gorgeous, iridescent light blue. It is light but also somehow very bold. Unfortunately, the color payoff is extremely sheer once it is applied, it looks almost clear with tons of very fine light blue glitter flakes. Like, I tried to build it up...it just wouldn't, it stayed sheer. When I added layers, it took off the existing dry layer completely and it just never built up. This in no way looked like product photo, in the product image the blue is very vivid, solid and opaque on the model but on my eyelid it was nearly totally transparent with just a slight blue-ish shimmer. I tried different ways, and I'm not at all new to makeup, this product just failed in this area miserably.
Another fail: staying power. I have dry skin but oily eyelids...oh, woe is me! Trust me, my skin hates me. I use primer with all powder shadows but have found 5 or 6 brands of liquid/jelly shadows that last a full 8 hours without creasing on me, so I KNOW it is indeed possible. I allowed this product to dry completely before opening my eyes fully, but saw a small amount of creasing within an hour. After 2.5 hours, there was a massive and embarrassing crease right in the middle of my lid. Nope, not something I can handle.
Note: I didn't try a primer with this product because the entire reason I prefer liquids is because I don't generally *need* primer and prefer to skip that step if possible. I'll try with a primer in the future, but that kind of defeats the purpose of me buying this eyeshadow in the first place.
I went ahead and still gave two stars because the shimmer is absolutely gorgeous, I will definitely still keep this product and use it as a brow highlighter or in the corners of my eyes to add a little glimmer...but not as a main eyeshadow. Sadly.
