This mini double boiler is the perfect size for melting small amounts of chocolate, etc. However, I will not be able to comment on how well it does. I ordered the boiler awhile ago thinking how it would helped with a baked good I had just made. Today, I had occasion to make it again so I pulled the out boiler, excited to use it, only to find the handle was broken off on one side. This makes it unusable. I wish I would have noticed when it first arrived. I’m now behind the return date. I will shop for a better made one.
It looks to be a quality product but I detected a smell I haven't smelled in years! It was a pesticide that used to be put in shipping crates for items imported from certain countries to kill invasive invasive insects! I washed mine real good and think I removed it! If your sensitive to chemicals you might want to be careful with this item especially since it comes in direct contact with your food!!! Also I looked like it may have been used before (a lot of scratches on it like someone cleaned it)
Don't be deceived by the pictures, read it carefully, it has a 2 cup capacity, think TINY. Well made though, solid, cost me more to ship it back. I can melt small batches of chocolate, butter, etc. If you want a a decent size then get a Cuisinart 7111-20 Chef's Classic Stainless. That's a very good size where you can get a mixer or immersion blender in it without splattering your place with custard and various food particles.
I was hoping this would fit snugly into the top of a standard sized pot to use for melting wax, butters and glycerin products in lotion and soap projects. It might fit snugly inside a mini pot (like the kind you use for reheating 1 small can of corn) but definitely not a normal pot. It is slightly bigger than a hand held sieve. Not what I was looking for. Would be perfect for someone that is using it for small quantities like making lip balms.
I don’t know if I read the description wrong but this double boiler is about the size of my hand. It is SUPER small. I expected it to be way bigger and when it came in the mail I just laughed. Besides that, it does the job well. If you want it for a small amount of whatever food or soap you’re melting then it’s great. But if you wanted to melt a large quantity of something then I’d suggest to look at something else.
This is a good product and has come in handy. With that said, the first time I used it I had to throw out the butter I’d melted. It had a black sheen to it, almost like something melted off the pot. I highly suggest cleaning, and doing a “test melt” before actually melting food you intend to bake with. Since the first use it’s been fine.
Pretty good for single use wax melting but the handles on mine fell off after the third use. I trashed it and went with something bigger. If you are using for personal candle making and are extremely careful with it then this is the item for you. It’s pretty easy to clean and does it’s jobs.
I bought 2 of these. One for milk chocolate one for white chocolate. They melt chocolate well. I gave 3 stars instead of 5 because one of them has some welding marks where the handle is on the inside that I'm hoping won't rust.
The item was as described, but I failed to notice/realize how small it actually is. It's so small, it's a little difficult to use and the handle gets very hot if you're not careful with placement. It would be better if there was some way to keep the handle from heating up. I really like the fact there's a pour spout, but you have to be very careful that steamy water from the underside of the double boiler doesn't also run forward when pouring and contaminate whatever project you might be working on.
