To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I just got this drive today, simple packaging. It works and it has its own sata cable for your B keyed m.2 drive and its own screwdriver for assembly. There are two things that I don't like: the RED sata cable that stands out, and the janky m.2 drive-stands that it uses. My drive-stands came separately from the PCB, which as it should because what if you want to change the sizes of the M.2. However, those drive stands DOES NOT fit into the PCB at all. The only thing thats stopping my m.2 drive from falling off is literally the screw and its not even secured tightly because of the drive-stands that it uses.
I would only recommend this if you're fine with the janky drive-stands set-up and the red sata cable. IT IS functional, but can definitely use more thoughts into design and user-experience.
This is an okay review, but do keep in mind for future reviews and products. People only tend to write reviews when they have a bad experience. People with a great/good/okay experience don't usually write reviews as they have no problem with it.
If you're on the fence and need to get this item, you can probably get it to try it out and see for yourself.
nice unit for attaching a nvme drive to mb - not as fast through the pcie interface though - terrible instructions - you have to install using included spacer and screw from the back - instructions do not show this - very stupid!! - fast shipping
PROS - Fast performance - Worked out of the box with Windows 10 (no driver installation was needed) - Accommodates M.2 NVMe SSD drives in a variety of lengths
CONS - Installation guide did not help at all. Went to look at one of the product pictures on Amazon instead to see how to mount the "Baffle" - The 4 golden riser screws are too big and won't fit. I used a plastic, white spacer I had laying around to keep the SSD secured to the card
M.2 SSD 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280? The first two digits correspond to the width of the drive. The last two are the length. A M.2 SSD 2280 is 22mm wide and 80mm long. If you purchase a 2280 drive and the computer only has room for 2230, you would not be able to use the former. This card can accommodate 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280. You place the golden riser into the appropriate slot on the card for the SSD's length.
My computer doesn't support M.2 drives and I've used all 4 SATA ports on the motherboard so this allows me to add ONE M.2 drive using the PCIE interface, but not a second M.2 drive because the second drive would still require an available SATA port on my motherboard.
The mount is a little odd, but if you look at my pictures, you can see how the M.2 drive is attached to the board.
A couple of points to note if the pictures can't be enlarged enough to see detail:
* The brass "nut" has a grooved end and a narrow collared end, the grooved end sits at the end (half circle) of your M.2 drive while the narrow end sits in the adapter card
* The fine threaded screw goes from the back of the card, through the hole and into the nut
I thought I could put both of my NVME drives on this adapter card. I was mistaken. It supports only NVME on the bottom slot and SATA SSD on the top. I suppose its my fault and I should have looked closer but from the product title at the time to the photo it looks like I could put both of my NVME drives on it at the same time. For the 1 drive its good. I would say performance is similar to other adapter cards I have tried. Just be careful you are not getting this for 2 NVME drives.
