I was using a throw pillow on my lap to get my iPad up to a height where it wouldn’t bother my surgically repaired neck. That did get hot after awhile. This stand keeps me cool and balances my iPad at the right height so my neck doesn’t hurt after use. It doesn’t allow the iPad to slip. Even with a cover on it, the pop up “rests” have enough room so I can leave the thick cover on. The stand fits comfortably between the arms of my recliner.
For my purposes of using an iPad or a laptop in my living room, it is just what I needed. However, I do not think I would trust it to hold hot soup or anything that could spill as the legs aren’t as stable as I’d need for that purpose. I wouldn’t call it wobbly when typing on it, though.
To make it adjustable in height and to allow the tray to lean at several angles, it isn’t perfectly stable. It is the only one I found, though, that can get from the chair cushion to the height I need for my neck to not be tilted downward - about 11”.
I recommend this product but am concerned about its longevity when I fold it up each day to store it.
I ordered the extra-large laptop because I work in bed several hours every day with many books, notebooks and drafting materials in play. I wanted an ergonomic alternative to using a pillow on my lap, at an adjustable height to save my neck. The extra-large was too big and clunky, though--however well-designed and sturdy-- and I returned it for the "medium" size. This one is more flimsy and likely to wear out, but because it's small I can stow it on a shelf without constantly readjusting, or tuck it under the bed--so the gears are less likely to strip. It's unobtrusive and half the weight, but fully sufficient for my purposes. I just keep the rest of my research materials on the side table or bed. Make sure your bottom measures less than 18" when sitting, however, unless you want to wear it.
Let’s make this short and sweet….I hope. Straight out of the box super light and would be quite easy to tote around the house if one wanted to. The mechanism to raise the unit and lower it is pretty solid but the little ‘locking’ pieces for it are plastic. My only gripe with those pieces are the potentials for breakage further on down the line but most things given some tender care can last a long time. It could just be the unit I have though. The tilting for it, again it’s not horrible b/c this thing is so lightweight it kind of starts leaning towards flimsy. So, it may or may not seem like it’s about to fall apart in your hands but it’s not. When rotating try and focus most of the pressure on the actual joints where it rotates and do it gently and you should be good. Overall, I really like it. I know it may not seem like it but just some worrying points; is it worth it to return it b/c of those points? No. I enjoy it and once I start piling my devices on it and getting to work it’s nothing that really heavily concerns me. I haven’t leaned on it yet so, if anything untoward happens I”ll update. I’m happy I bought it; it’s a pretty good lap/bed desk.
Not heavy, sturdy, easy storage. Instructions were clear, its comfortable. Laptop doesn't slip off, the rubber stoppers are efficient. Minus 1 star because of the mouse/ wrist bar. It comes off too easy when getting it out of storage. I constantly have to put it back on. Frustrating to me. Maybe its an optional piece but it keep your mouse from falling.
I like it for use sitting in my recliner. I wish it could be lowered a bit more and it would be great if retractable arm rests could be added some how (for elbows/arms to rest on as you type, otherwise the angle of the wrists causes repetitive stress fatigue after a typing a while). And seriously, it is perfect as a little lap desk for kids doing their homework or drawingor eating snacks while watching their cartoons.
It's exactly what I wanted. I like to use my laptop in bed every morning while drinking coffee. This is perfect for that. I sometimes cover it with a cloth place mat and eat breakfast in bed. The only downside is it gets covered in fingerprints easily. It's the shiny black finish. I still like the item a lot and use it every day. But If I knew it would get covered in fingerprints so easily, I would have went with a different color.
Nice product. Light enough to move around easily and large enough to fit my work laptop and a mouse or notepad. The "wrist rest" isn't very comfortable though. The plastic cover on the one I received has a rather sharp seam and doesn't do much at all to cushion the metal bar that attaches it to the desk.
